Depression
When the day feels heavy and flat
Persistent low mood, loss of interest, and fatigue that get in the way of work, sleep, and relationships.

What we might talk about
What it can feel like
Depression can look like sadness, but it can also look like numbness, irritability, or simply not recognizing yourself. Sleep, appetite, concentration, and hope often move together. By the time people find me, they have usually been carrying this for a while.
How I work with it
I look at the whole picture: history, prior medications, medical factors, and what you actually want life to feel like. Treatment may include medication, psychotherapy, or both. I explain tradeoffs plainly and we decide together.
The first stretch
Early visits are unhurried. We map what has been tried, what helped, and what made things worse. If medication is part of the plan, I talk through benefits, risks, and how we will know it is working.
A bit more
People often wait until work, parenting, or a relationship starts to slip. That is a reasonable time to get help, not a late one. I also look for medical issues, alcohol, and past treatments that were stopped too soon.
